My mother laughed at the title of my blog. She could not understand why a young woman of a whole 27 years would title herself a spinster. Let me explain.

The definition of a spinster is “an unmarried woman, typically an older woman beyond the usual age for marriage.” While I am not beyond the age typical age of marriage I am getting close. In fact I am only a year or so away.

More than anything I have embodied the life of a woman who lives her life separate from that of a significant other. I don’t have one, and I am also not looking. I love all that encompasses love, and support all those that have it. I also support the evolution of the self that comes from being single.

My very first road trip. 17 days from NC to the Grand Canyon

In my perpetual state of singleness I have discovered so many wonderful things about myself. I learned how to cook, I learned how to be alone and not lonely, and I started to travel. Solo travel has brought me a confidence that I never could have imagined. It has changed my world view, introduced me to amazing people, and has been strengthened my mental health when it was most needed.

That is what this blog is all about. I am sure that some women, and also some men are interested in how to properly budget and safely execute a solo trip. This could be on the road, the train, or even the plane. I am hoping that my experiences will enlighten and encourage others, especially women of color, to pursue their own travel desires. Travel is dope and the experiences should be shared. This blog strives to show that.
